01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Milan on Via delle Forze Armate, Osteria alla Grande offers an authentic Lombardian and Italian dining experience that perfectly balances tradition with a welcoming home-like atmosphere. This charming trattoria serves up a delightful array of regional dishes that invite you to savor the true flavors of Northern Italy.

The culinary offerings here are a true celebration of Italian comfort food. Diners rave about the risotto, described as "out of this world," its creamy texture and rich flavors creating a truly memorable first bite. The hearty cinghiale (wild boar) is a standout—bold, tender, and packed with deep rustic flavors, it's a must-try that leaves a lasting impression. The ragu, while slightly more intense in color and flavor for some tastes, still upholds a satisfying warmth and authenticity that complements the menu beautifully.

Sweet endings at Osteria alla Grande are not to be missed. Desserts such as the apple cake and the sumptuous chocolate cake provide a perfect, indulgent finish to the meal, with their soft, homestyle textures and comforting flavors that conjure memories of Italian grandmothers’ kitchens.

The ambience amplifies the overall dining pleasure. With dim lighting, vintage décor, and even a jukebox playing in the background, the space feels cozy and intimate, evoking a vibrant yet relaxed community vibe. The owners and staff contribute significantly to this inviting atmosphere—friendly, engaging, and genuinely enthusiastic about sharing their passion for Lombardian cuisine. Whether you come for a casual lunch, where a daily menu offers excellent value, or a leisurely dinner with a broader selection, Osteria alla Grande feels like a warm embrace amidst Milan’s bustling streets.

It’s clear from the repeated visits and heartfelt praise by patrons like Flavio and Fabio that this spot is beloved not just for its food but for the unforgettable experience it crafts—a perfect blend of rich flavors, convivial company, and a genuine slice of Milanese culture. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, to secure your place in this small but lively treasure of Italian dining.

For anyone seeking to indulge in traditional Milanese dishes served with a generous side of warmth and character, Osteria alla Grande stands out not only as a restaurant but as a cherished local gem that invites you to become part of its extended family.

Everything was delicious. The risotto is out of this world. The ragu was a bit too red for me, but it was still good. The cinghiale is AMAZING!!! Order it!! The apple cake was unbelievable, and the chocolate one too.

Amazing place! Beautiful atmosphere, vintage items and a juke box! It felt entrancing and beautiful with the music and dim lights. The owner is very interesting and engaging, the staff very friendly. The food is brilliant, ravioli was very rich in flavor. The apple tart was soft and felt very home-like. Definitely a great trattoria and great prices

Been here a few times and I always return with pleasure. Atmosphere is very familiar and food really good, with typical Milanese dishes. At lunch time not all dishes are available, as they offer a dayly menu for €10, but for dinner the choice is much wider. Be sure to book ahead, especially on weekends, since the restaurant is always full.

Cute little place with amazing food! I went here with my husband to celebrate our anniversary and he wanted good risotto. He wasn't disappointed and all the other food we ordered was great. The owner was also very accommodating and hospitable.
